Hailing from north central Illinois, he began life on the farm, where hard work helped craft a strong moral compass. After working at Gale Products, he moved his family to Naples in 1953, raised two sons, and managed the OMC test center. After losing the love of his life, Phyllis, in 1987 he was fortunate to find another. He and Gail enjoyed RV travel, finally settling in the mountains of North Carolina to enjoy the scenery and ambiance of Murphy. Avid golfers, much of their time was spent on the course just outside their back door, as well as enjoying friend and family visits. Health issues would eventually bring them back to Naples to be near family. After losing his second wife, Dewey spent his final years with family at his side.
Dewey is preceded in death by his father, Dewey William Craig; mother, Ava Mae (nee Todd) Craig; brothers Duane Allen (Anna Ruth) Craig and Earl (Mary) Craig; nephew James Craig; and spouses Phyllis (Knowles) Craig and Gail (Cooper) Craig.
He is survived by sons John (Harriet) Craig, and Scott (Carol) Craig as well as granddaughters Emily and Lauren Craig; Sister-in-law Mary Haradon; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Dewey’s legacy is one of quiet strength, grace, respect, and responsibility, both to himself as well as toward others. He will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank Keystone Place and Avow Hospice for their comprehensive and compassionate care.
A private family burial is planned.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Avow Hospice Inc. of Naples. (avowcares.org).
