Our humble and kind son, Court Weitzel age 25, slipped away from this life and into the arms of his savior Jesus Christ on September 11, 2021, in Naples, FL due to pulmonary complications. Court was born in Dallas, TX on May 20, 1996 to Lori and Dennis Weitzel. He was the youngest of five children; with two beautiful sisters Taylor and Larsen, and two loyal brothers Mason and Chaps, all of whom called him “Courty Bear” as a child. Court attended Hyer Elementary School, Highland Park Middle School, Winter Park schools and graduated high school from The McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN. Court attended Texas A&M, where he served as a member of the Corps of Cadets, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Science from the University of Tennessee. Court’s first job, which he loved, took him to Naples, Florida as a project engineer for Manhattan Construction.
Court was a gentle giant with a quick smile, an enthusiasm for learning, an insatiable curiosity and a love for all people no matter their station in life. Court was never heard to say a bad word about anyone. His favorite word to describe anyone or anything was “awesome”. We can only imagine with a smile how he will describe Heaven.
Like his brothers, Court was an Eagle Scout, attending Philmont Scout Ranch and the National Jamboree. He was an accomplished athlete. In high school, Court rowed on the state and national championship crew teams. One of the happiest days of his life was when his boat won the prestigious Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia. At McCallie, Court won medals in indoor rowing championships, helped McCallie win the Head of the Hooch and served as team captain his senior year. While in high school, he trained with the US Rowing junior national team. Court also rowed for Texas A&M and was named the Outstanding Rower on the team his sophomore year.
Court was a loved and adored grandson, son, brother, nephew and cousin. He had a tender relationship with his grandmother Valerie Mason and was best friends with his Irish twin Chaps, whom Court called his hero. Court phoned both his parents each day on the drive home from work, delivering what became the “Court Report”. He returned home each night with his beloved cat “ChurchMouse” waiting by the door. Court was easy-going, sweet and loved people. He is missed and mourned by his parents Lori and Dennis, his sister Taylor Arrington, her husband Clay, their children Hunt and Callaway, his sister Larsen Brown and her husband Jacob, his brother Mason and his wife Julie and by his brother Chaps. He had many wonderful uncles and aunts: George and Kim Mason, Wayne and Donna Mason, Ken and Celia Weitzel, Lorelei Weitzel and Donna Williams. His cousins are Lindsay Weitzel, Braden Weitzel, Cameron Mason Vickery, Rhett Mason, Jillian Mason Shannon, Brian Mason, Amanda Mason Mullinix and Brad Mason. Court is also survived by his Godparents Robert McCamey and Marsella Fults.
There will be an open time of visitation with his family on Thursday September 30, 2021 at the parents’ residence, The Ardan in the Sixth Floor Resident’s Lounge at 2975 Blackburn Street in Dallas from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
Court’s life will be remembered in a private memorial service at the chapel at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas, TX on Friday October 1, 2021. His uncle The Reverend Doctor George A. Mason will give the eulogy. His final resting place will be at the Columbarium at Wilshire Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, Court’s family asks that donations be made in his name to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St. Dallas, TX 75219, to the attention of Stephanie Brigger.
