Born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 24, 1942, Dennis lived a full and vibrant life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a fierce love for the beach and ocean. He spent most of his life in Matawan, New Jersey, and later in Naples, Florida, where he continued to pursue the passions that defined him.
Dennis began his working life as an electrician and a pizza maker, before finding his true calling in sales. He rose to become a regional sales manager with Bic Corporation, a role he excelled in thanks to his sharp mind, personable nature, and legendary powers of persuasion. Later, he and his beloved wife Ann founded a successful hotel amenities business, an entrepreneurial venture that continues to thrive today after more than 50 years.
He proudly served his country in the National Guard in both New York and Pennsylvania from 1963 to 1970.
Dennis carried a deep sense of responsibility, discipline, and precision into every aspect of his life. As a master communicator and a natural salesman, he had the rare ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His meticulous work ethic and love of the little details were values he passed onto his children. He was, perhaps, the last man on Earth still devoted to the spreadsheet software Lotus 1-2-3, long after its discontinuation, a badge of honor he wore proudly.
Whether he was fishing for striped bass off Long Beach Island, hunting bonefish in the Caribbean, reminiscing about his cherished 1961 Corvette “The Menace,” or firing up a prized Opus X or Cuban cigar, Dennis brought care, passion, and his trademark humor to everything he did.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years and partner in life and business, Ann Summer; his children, Marshall Summer (Kaory) and Elisa Summer; and his adored granddaughters, Karina, Thalie, and Luna. He is also survived by his stepsister, Sharon Nowik. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Summer, his mother, Elsie Summer, and his stepmother, Lillian Summer.
Dennis “Captain Jack” Summer leaves behind a legacy of hard work, heartfelt connections, and unforgettable stories told over cigars and spreadsheets. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A private family gathering will be held to honor his memory.
