

He was born to Patricia Jean Whitaker and the late James Earls Whitaker, September 17,1955 in Charleston, West Virginia. Douglas grew up in Cochran, Georgia and Natick, Massachusetts. He graduated from Natick High School in 1973 and attended the New England Conservatory. Douglas married Sania Whitaker in 2000 and they lived together in Plantation, Florida before relocating to Naples, Florida in 2003.
Douglas was a stagehand, Stage Manager, Technical Director and Artistic Operations Manager for many different orchestras including Tanglewood, The Houston Symphony, New World Symphony, Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, and National Reperatory Orchestra. He was working at The Memphis Symphony Orchestra when he passed away.
A unique soul, he was very funny and enjoyed making people laugh. Douglas devoted his life to music and toured with numerous orchestras over the course of his life. He loved to travel and watch sports. Some of his favorite sports teams include the Boston Red Sox, all other Boston teams, The Georgia Bull Dogs, and Manchester United.
Douglas is survived by his wife Sania Whitaker and brothers Ronald Whitaker and Gregory Whitaker. He is also survived by his three children, Richard Narducci, Danielle Whitaker and Craig Whitaker as well as his five grandchildren: Nicholas, Andrew, Carter, Brooke and Chase.
A viewing will be held from at 2 p.m.- 4:00pm Sunday January 19,2014 at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens. There will be an additional viewing held at 11 a.m. and a service and burial at 2 p.m. on January 20,2014at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens.
