Eleanor Massaglia, 98, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2014 at her home in Kensington with her family at her side. She was born September 4, 1915 and raised in Washington, D.C. to parents, Nellie (Rowe) and Frank T. Mitchell. She had been a resident of Naples for 40 years moving here from Wilmington, DE. She attended Duke University and worked in Washington, D.C. until her marriage to her late husband, Edward J. Massaglia. They were married for 66 wonderful years. Lee’s two favorite places were Naples, FL and a home she and Ed dearly loved in Linville, NC. She enjoyed golf, especially at Royal Poinciana Golf Club, and was a member for 39 years. She also achieved a Senior Master level in duplicate bridge. She loved traveling and adventures all of her life. Lee and Ed went on a world cruise when they were in their 80’s. In her 90’s she learned water color painting and attended many classes taught by her daughter, Ellen McKinney. Her volunteer interest and support included Naples Community Hospital and the Conservancy of Southwest Florida as well as many others. Lee is survived by her children Ellen (Bill) McKinney and Ed (Michele) Massaglia. Her daughter, Marie Massaglia, predeceased her in 2012. She was known as “Nooty” by her beloved grandchildren Will, Mitchell, Lee, Chris, and Ali and great grandchildren, Lexi, Lily, Jack, Claire, Matthew, Aidan, and Samantha. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Gloria Passidomo Talis. She was most grateful to Georgette Mayer for her kind care and assistance over the last several years. A vigil prayer service will be held on Wednesday January 29, 2014 at 6:00PM. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 10:00AM. Both will be held at St. William Catholic Church, 750 Seagate Drive, Naples, Florida.
