Eric Stephen Frankel, 84, passed away on April 15, 2026 at his home in Naples, Florida. He lived with honesty and dignity, and he was a quiet and steadfast presence in the hearts of the many people who loved him.
Eric was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on December 16, 1941 to Arthur Frankel and Beatrice Tubowitz Frankel. He grew up in Highland Park, New Jersey, attended New Brunswick High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Rutgers University as well as a Master’s degree from Monmouth College. He served in Vietnam as a First Lieutenant in the Signal Corps of the United States Army. When he returned from service in Vietnam, he married Lynn Caron Wenger — just as he predicted he would do on their first date — on December 22, 1966 in West Deal, New Jersey. The two complemented each other perfectly.
Eric worked for multiple companies as a systems analyst and in similar technical roles, though he was never defined by his work. He loved reading, computers, worldwide travel, and ham radio (WB2RHB, SK). He loved building things with his children, Jonathan Joshua and Meredith Blair Frankel, as well as (quietly) showing off his encyclopedic breadth of knowledge. He and Lynn moved to Naples, Florida full time in 2006, where they continued to develop their wide circle of friends. Most recently, Eric served on the Board of Directors for the Sterling Oaks community and took particular pride in chairing the teams negotiating the community’s cable TV and broadband contracts.
Eric is survived by his wife Lynn, his children Jonathan and Meredith, his grandchildren Hannah Sophia Frankel, Alana Noemi Frankel, and Sidney Natalia Kamerman, and his sons-in-law Troy Dean Hudson and Max Leopoldo Kamerman.
A funeral will be held on at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 17 at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens.
Eric’s family wishes to extend its thanks to the nurses and care team from Avow Hospice for their compassionate support. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Avow Foundation and the Sterling Oaks Legacy Foundation.
