In 1954, Larry met Marlene Luper, the love of his life. Their love story spanned 68 remarkable years of companionship and shared experiences. Together, they raised their daughter, Cathy Lynn, nurturing a family that grew to include two grandsons, Dan and Collin. Larry's legacy lives on through his family, including five great-grandchildren: Cecilia, Taylor, Devyn, Avery, and Quynn, and a great-great-granddaughter, Kora Anne, ensuring that his spirit will continue to influence the generations to come.
Larry's commitment to serving his country began in 1956 when he joined the Marine Corps, a dedication that continued until 1960. As the saying goes, "Once a Marine, always a Marine," his service in the Marine Corps was a fundamental part of his identity and left a lasting impact on his life's journey.
Larry's dedication to his community shone through his 25+ years of service and leadership with the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department. He served as volunteer, the first paid member, and director. He selflessly risked his life to ensure the safety of others, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched.
Larry's selflessness also extended to education. While a part of the fire department, he embarked on a teaching career within the Montgomery County Public School system, becoming a cornerstone in the establishment of the first vocational education foundation. His mentorship touched many student’s’ lives, inspiring them to achieve their fullest potential.
Larry's generosity extended beyond his actions to the heart of his home. From Rockville, to Buffalo Gap, to Southern Maryland, to Naples, and everywhere in between, he ensured that there was always room at the table for one of his famous home-cooked meals… If you never had his famous sausage gravy, you really missed out! He provided a supportive shoulder for anyone in need, with compassion and understanding.
Their home was always a hub of joyful gatherings, from casual get-togethers to vibrant parties. It wasn't just a home; it was a place where friends and family converged, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The door was always open, and anyone was welcome to step inside at any time. The love and laughter shared within those walls created cherished memories for all who were fortunate enough to experience it.
Larry's adventurous spirit also led to many memorable hunting expeditions, camping trips, and boat outings. Whether on land or water, his heart and hospitality knew no bounds.
Larry Fisk will be remembered for his service, dedication, and unwavering love for his family, friends and community. His life serves as an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
