James Edward Sutton, 70, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was a Naples resident since 1982. James was born on May 16, 1948 in Queen’s, New York to the late Joseph & Grace Sutton. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Margaret Vitiello, married August 4, 1978. In 2015 they celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary.
James enlisted in the United States Army in 1965, proudly serving four tours in Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division, seeing duty on the front lines for over 18 months of his 7 & ½ years Active Duty. His most prestigious accommodation was The Combat Infantry Badge, awarded to soldiers actively engaged in ground combat with the enemy. He was a member of the Army Military Police & was qualified as an Expert Marksman. His accolades included, The Bronze Star, Army Commendation, Air & Good Conduct Medal. For service in Vietnam he received the National Defense Service, The Republic of Vietnam Service, & the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medals & ribbons. He was honorably discharged in 1974 with the rank of Specialist (SP4).
He is survived by his daughter Laura Ann, his sisters & their families, Grace & husband Bob Russo, nephew Robert, great nephew Bobby (11), great niece Ava (9), nephew Matthew & wife Leah & great nephews Aiden (13), Owen (11), & Ryan (7). Kathleen & husband Gordon Bristol with nephew Christopher & wife Kyle, great nephew Lachlan (3), great Niece Tieigan (1) & niece Kerri. Joanne & husband Michael Collins & nephew Michael. Sister-in-law Dorothy Mary & husband Richard C Bailey. Niece & God Daughter Dorothy Stephanie & husband Marshall Edward Levin, great niece & nephew Elizabeth Grace (7) & Alexander Marshall Edward Levin (2). Niece Jody Vitiello & wife Marisa Sedotto & great nephew Kyle Vitiello. He leaves behind his 3 Chihuahua’s Penelope, Brooklyn & Molly.
He was employed by various hotels for security & engineering positions in New York & Florida from the 1970’s to 2000’s. He spent the last 17 years as an overnight stockman at the Walmart Neighborhood Markey in Naples. On his days off he was a full time Great Uncle, Godfather & Master of Ceremonies for The 4th of July Family Celebrations. He attended all the holidays & special events for Elizabeth, Alexander & the family. He has a real flare for fireworks shows.
