Born on April 6th, 1929 to Chip & Marie in St. Mary's, Ohio, Jerry graduated from Memorial High School where he was elected to schools Hall of Fame. He later received his B.S. In Psychology from the University of Dayton. Elected into the Football Hall of Fame, Jerry later served on the Board of Trustees at U.D.
Married to the love of his life, Janet, for over 63 years, they had 7 children; Terry and wife Kris, Rick and wife Leslie, Linda and husband Dan Hickox, Vicki, Diane, Jerry Jr. and wife Julie, Steve and wife Maria. They also have 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Jerry was a superb athlete, drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in football as well as later becoming an international skeet champion. He retired as Vice Chairman of PennCorp Financial in 1994, after a highly successful business career. His philanthropic work through The VanderHorst Family Foundation and The Father Richard Tobin Trust reflects Jerry and Janet's values and belief in giving back.
A private family ceremony will be held in Naples, FL. A memorial celebration is being scheduled in May at Jerry's beloved University of Dayton. He will be missed but more importantly, he will be remembered.
