John D Collins

NAPLES - John D. Collins, formerly of Londonderry and Atkinson, N.H., and Drakes Island, ME passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012 at Avow Hospice of Naples.

John was born in Lawrence, MA on December 29, 1938. He was educated in the Lawrence School System going on to graduate from Bentley College in Waltham, MA majoring in accounting before beginning his life-long career in finance.

In the course of his business career John served as Sr. Vice-President of Commercial Lending at The Arlington Trust Company in Lawrence, MA; founding Director & Treasurer of First Guaranty Savings Bank of Salem, N.H.; former Director of Andover Bank, Salem, N.H.; former Director of the Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce of Salem, N.H.; former Trustee and Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Salem, N.H. John also served as Chairman of the Board of Castle College; Director of the United Way of Merrimack Valley; National Director of McDonald’s Licensee’s Computer User Group and Financial Advisor of the Boston Chapter of the Ronald McDonald Children Charities; member of the Board of Directors of The Sisters of Mercy, Windham, N.H; and past Director of the N.H. Association of Commerce & Industry.

In 1971 John joined the Colley & McCoy Management Group of Windham, N.H. (one of the largest McDonald’s franchisees in the country) where he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer until his retirement to Naples in 2003. John was a life-long passionate and generous supporter of many charitable organizations, most especially the Ronald McDonald Children Charities.

John leaves his good friend Pablo Lopez of Naples; his niece Karen (Collins) Given; her husband Robert and their children Daniel and Josh of Salem, N.H. and many friends. John was predeceased by his parents Walter and Alice V. (Bourgault) Collins; his brothers Walter, Jr. and Raymond Collins and his step-father Manuel T. Azevedo. Funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 11 A.M. A Gathering of Friends will be held immediately after the service at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens.
