John was born August 9, 1933 in Uddingston, Scotland to the late Joseph and Jessie Ure. He was a twin and grew up with his twin brother, Willie, older brother Joseph, and sister Jessie in a typical Scottish working-class family. As young men in the 1950’s the three brothers emigrated to Canada and it was at a dance hall in Toronto, Ontario that John met the love of his life, Mavis Buckley. They shared a love of dance and music, and all eyes were on them when they danced at family gatherings, weddings, and parties. John was an accomplished, self-taught musician, playing the accordion, clarinet, bag-pipes, and key-board. Music was a constant in his home, his own music or the sounds of his favorite big bands.
Being a self-employed Heating and Air Conditioning tradesman, John had the flexibility of relocating anywhere he chose, and in the mid-1970’s he relocated his family to beautiful Naples on the Gulf. John worked in facilities management at the Collier County Courthouse until he retired to enjoy time with his family.
John is survived by his four children, daughters Linda Tully (Steven), Kimberley Ellis (Robert), and Kelly Mowery, and son John Donaldson ‘JD’ Ure III; five grandchildren, Rachael Smith (Matt), Ashley Blake (Scott), John Mowery, Julie Perez (Jose), Jamie Sigg (Dan), and 12 great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mavis, his parents Joseph and Jessie, brothers Joseph and Willie, and his sister Jessie.
