May 7, 1943 – September 16, 2022
Joyce Buerman, 79, of Richmond, MN and Bonita Springs, FL passed away on Friday, September 16th, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joyce was born on May 7th, 1943 in Saint Cloud, MN, the only child of Arthur and Verena (Meyer) Terres. She was raised in Saint Martin, MN and spent her younger years helping on the family farm and at her parents bar (Art’s Place). She graduated from Paynesville High School. During college she met and then eventually married Roger Buerman in December, 1965. She worked at Fingerhut as a supervisor until she and Roger purchased and ran Horseshoe Lake Resort in Richmond, MN for nearly 40 years. Joyce and Roger worked tirelessly to build up a successful family resort and were rewarded with many lifelong friends in the process. While hard work and dedication served her well throughout her life, nothing gave her more joy and fulfillment than being a mother and best friend to her daughters Rebecca and Amanda. Family time and traditions were very important to her. She will always be remembered as a deeply caring and devoted person, not just to her girls, but to countless others as well. She was always willing to lend an ear and offer some advice to anyone in need. She was never afraid to go into battle on behalf of herself or her loved ones. She was a courageous fighter for what she believed in. Joyce’s other passions were many. She never met a garage sale, flea market or antique shop that didn’t have to be meticulously scanned for new treasures that could be added to one of her numerous collections. She was an avid animal lover and cherished her pets and any stray that crossed her path. She also loved to spend time tending to her flowers and plants whether in MN or FL. Other hobbies included: playing cards (especially when she won), reading (True Crime or Animal stories), and watching the Minnesota Twins and Wild. She also loved entertaining family and friends. Her Christmas Eve open house gatherings over the years were enjoyed and will be remembered by many. No matter when you visited Joyce’s house, you were sure to leave with a full belly. She is survived by her children, Rebecca of Bonita Springs, FL, and Amanda (Paul Gertken) of Richmond, MN and her beloved poodle Lilly. She also leaves behind many close and special friends. Her smile and infectious laughter will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Roger. We would like to thank the staff at Florida Cancer Specialists and GenesisCare for providing our mom with such great treatment during her fight with cancer. A special thank you also goes out to Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to our mom during her final days. Arrangements are being made through Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Garden in Naples, FL. A private service will be held in Florida with a memorial to be held at a later time in Minnesota. Memorials to animal rescues or shelters are preferred in lieu of flowers.See more See Less
