Judith Ann Thater

Judith A. Thater, 62, longtime resident of Danbury, CT, Kirkwood MO, and Johnson City, NY and most recently from Ave Maria, FL passed away on June 8th 2017 after a long and courageous battle with ALS. She was a loving and caring wife to William, who she married on June 6, 1981, and mother to Stephen and Michael. She was born in Johnson City, NY on October 23, 1954. She graduated from Johnson City High School in 1972 and Broome Community College in 1974.

Judy was always looking for ways to help others and she did this through her career as an insurance agent at various companies, volunteering at the Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, and always lending an ear to anyone who needed it. She cherished traveling with friends and family, especially to Hawaii, Paris, and her hometown of Johnson City, and watching sporting events, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, her husband’s golf tournaments, and sons’ baseball and basketball games. The time she valued most was during the holidays, surrounded by her closest loved ones, telling stories that would fill the room with laughter. Her strong and never wavering faith kept her kind, selfless, and radiant as a loving wife and mother.

She is survived by husband William; son Stephen, of St. Petersburg, Florida; son Michael and daughter-in-law Rachel, of Boston Massachusetts; sisters’ Jacqueline and Jennifer; brother David; step-brother Walter; step-sister Lana; several nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. She was predeceased by sister Theresa Rundell, parents Dolora Schoonover and Thomas McVinnie, and step-father Konstantin Bajsel. All of her family and friends will miss her dearly.

Visiting hours will be held at Hodges Funeral Home At Naples Memorial Gardens in Naples, Florida on Tuesday June 13th at 10:30am followed by a funeral mass at 12pm at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Ave. N., Naples. Burial will follow in Naples Memorial Gardens.
