Larry was born in Havana, Cuba, to Geronimo and Waldina Hernandez on October 21, 1958. He attended Clewiston High School in Clewiston, Florida. After graduation, Larry studied drafting and design at the technical school in Fort Myers, now known as Fort Myers Technical College. He married Donna Blair on February 14, 1981, in Wachula, Florida. In 1991, Larry became a proud American citizen, witnessed by his dear friends Joe and Michelle Pescatrice. That was one of Larry’s proudest days.
Larry’s career in Lee and Collier Counties led him to meet a multitude of people who helped shape his life and career. Larry worked as an Architectural Designer for several firms in Lee County and Collier County during his 47-year career. During this time, Larry operated his own firm and designed and built many homes on Sanibel and Captiva. He recently retired from Studio2 Architecture Planning, the firm which he and his friend and trusted partner, Rocco Costa, established in 2007.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of almost 45 years, Donna Blair Hernandez. Larry’s charm, sense of humor, and big, beautiful smile swept Donna off her feet one night when he ran into her car. From that night on, they were inseparable. They faced every life challenge with determination and humor, and every victory gratefully and with excitement.
He is also survived by a sister, Dalia Hernandez, and an uncle, Rolondo Mendez.
Larry is survived by many family members who will miss him immensely: He leaves three Blair sisters that he adored and would do anything for: Rhonda Schrenk, Melinda Luce, and Karen Gordon. Then there are the two fellow members of the “Blair Girls’ Husbands’ Club”: Mitch Schrenk and Jean Luce. He is also survived by Michael Blair, his brother-in-law, and his wife Ana Blair.
Larry loved his ten nieces and nephews almost as much as they worshiped him. His nephews and their amazing wives are George Schrenk and Denise Schrenk, Randall Schrenk and Suzannah Schrenk, Shea Luce, Kendall Gordon and Jackie Gordon, Nick Gordon, Ryan Blair, and Rowland Blair. His nieces and their wonderful husbands are Jamie Jarvis and David Jarvis, Blair Sims and Matt Sims, and McKenzie Blair.
Larry had great nieces and nephews who made his world light up. He was honored to be their “Uncle Larry”. They are Mitchell Schrenk, Hazel Schrenk, Shiloh Schrenk, Sophia Schrenk, Sawyer Schrenk, Shelah Schrenk, Marie Sims, Nell Sims, Sutton Jarvis, Blaine Gordon, Arthur Gordon, and Ralleigh Blair.
Larry is preceded in death by his father, Geronimo Hernandez, his mother, Waldina Hernandez, and his aunt, Aurora Mendez. He is also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Guldmar (Buck) Blair, and mother-in-law, Helen Blair.
