It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Madeline Lee Efthimion, 79, of Fort Myers, Florida formerly of McDonald, Pennsylvania. Madeline passed away on November 29, 2022. She was born in Canonsburg Pennsylvania on September 20, 1943 to William and Jane Sweetie. Madeline graduated from Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. She enjoyed a long and varied nursing career until she retired in 2003. In 1959, she met the love of her life, John Efthimion and they were married in 1964.
Madeline loved spending her free time helping others. She volunteered at various soup kitchens and her parish, The Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord. She also loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. During her lifetime, she was fortunate enough to travel the world with her beloved husband, with some of her favorite places being Italy, Greece, Ireland, and Cancun Mexico.
Madeline was preceded in death by her father William Sweetie, her mother Jane Sweetie, and her infant daughter Kelly Efthimion.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John Efthimion, her daughters Michelle Costantini (Domenic), Shannon Mitchell (James), and Nicole Pabon (Richie), her seven adoring grandchildren, Nicholas, Riley, Morgan, Tatum, Makenna, Teagan, and Christian. She also is survived by her brothers, Raymond Sweetie (Sherron), Jay Sweetie, William Sweetie (Debbie), and Gregory Sweetie (Lyn) and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave. N. Naples, Florida 34108 on December 9, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held at The Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord, 8121 Cypress Lake Dr., Fort Myers, Florida 33919 on December 10, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Monsignor Stephen McNamara. A christian burial and reception will follow the mass at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens.
