Maggie was born in Lafayette, Indiana on August 30, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Margaret (Horan) and Robert J Mohlman. Maggie was raised in Lafayette and graduated from Jefferson High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Sweet Briar College located in Virginia.
Following graduation, she returned to Lafayette and worked for a brief time at the family business, Gerry Mohlman and Son Jewelers. Maggie was ambitious and had big dreams so off to New York City she went. She was successful in the advertising business and eventually became a Vice President. Maggie was a very creative, competitive, and classy lady. She was committed to excellence with a proactive and positive spirit.
Maggie in her mid-forties rekindled a relationship with a gentleman she had dated in high school. In 1979 Naval Captain Bud Degler and Maggie were married in the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City.
In 1982 Bud and Maggie moved to Greenwich, Connecticut. Following retirement in 1991, the Degler’s moved to Naples, Florida where they enjoyed twenty glorious years together playing golf and tennis, dancing and entertaining. She also earned a reputation for her culinary skills. Maggie’s dear husband passed away on January 17, 2013.
She leaves behind a sister, Mary Jo (Jim) Risk, Lafayette, IN and their three children, Carrie (Joe) Hart, Jamie (Stephanie) Risk and Emily (Doug) Winters; and two brothers, R. J.(Nancy) Mohlman Greenville, SC and their two children, Jason Mohlman and Suzanne (Tony) Bazarko; and Gerry (Janet deceased) Mohlman, Lafayette, IN and his daughter Gretchen (John) Neal, Indianapolis. A beloved stepson, Douglas (Laura) Degler, Stevensville, MD. As well as eight grandnieces and grandnephews.
The family extends its sincere gratitude to the Aston Gardens staff for their thoughtful care and a very special “thank you” to Cheryl Maher for her friendship and loving support of Maggie.
A celebration of Margaret Ann’s life will be held at Hodges Funeral Home 525 111th Avenue N. Naples, FL on Tuesday, August 17, at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon reception will follow to greet the family and share memories.
