

Margaret Helen Menendez Nelson, 91, a longtime resident of Daytona Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2016 in Naples, FL. She was born October 16, 1924 in Tampa, FL daughter of Stanley H. Menendez and Helen Stabler Menendez. She graduated from Fletcher High School in Jacksonville Beach, FL. It was in Jacksonville Beach where she met her best friend and husband Joe while he was stationed at Mayport in the Navy. They moved to Daytona Beach in 1948. Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Junior League Society of Daytona Beach, dedicated Mother and wife and worked as a secretary at Seabreeze Middle School.
Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Joe Nelson, parents, Stanley and Helen, sisters, Emily Chester and Florence Ransbarger, and brother Earl Menendez.
Mrs. Nelson is survived by her loving children, daughter, Sharon Nelson Farmer and her husband, Larry of Naples, FL and son, Craig Nelson of Daytona Beach. She was the adoring grandmother to her granddaughters, Kacey Farmer, Barrett Farmer, and Brittany Farmer Kirkman (Michael). She is also survived by her brother, Stanley Menendez, sisters-in-law, Ann Nelson Unitan and Eva Meltzer, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Margaret was an avid reader, an amazing cook, loved gardening and was an enthusiastic sports fan. She cherished time spent with her family. She will be especially remembered for her kindness and quick wit. Margaret brought incredible joy to her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joe and Margaret Nelson Scholarship Fund, which is set up at Seabreeze Senior High School for a male or female graduating senior scholar/athlete. Donations can be made payable to Seabreeze Senior High School and designated for the Joe and Margaret Nelson Scholarship Fund.
A memorial service will be held in Daytona Beach at a later date.
