Margaret, Nancy to friends and family, was born in Philadelphia, PA to Alvin L and Margaret S Barth. Growing up in Woodbury, NJ gave way to the family moving to “the farm”, which became the focal point of the rural living that would ultimately define the desired environment for her family throughout her life.
Nancy graduated from Penn State University, following in both her Dad’s and Brother’s footsteps, with a degree in Home Economics. While fully immersed in college life and a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, she met her future husband, Roland Sutton, on a blind date facilitated by her cousin, David West. They were married upon his return from serving in the Korean War.
A strong pull from Maine, where Nancy had summered since she was very young, drew Nancy and Roland to South Paris where they would start a business, raise a family, and wholly immerse themselves in their new community.
Nancy’s journey in life was both diverse and with considerable depth. With the principle focus of raising her four children with Roland, who was often a weekend warrior in the early years of the new business venture Maine Machine Products Company, she found time to engage and participate in her “village”.
Nancy was a long time member of First Congregational Church, South Paris and served as a Sunday School teacher and President of the ladies Circle. She served as President of the local Child health Center Board of Directors. Nancy was a Director and Founder of the Norway Food Pantry. She served the Girl Scouts of America program for twenty five years as a Girl Scout Leader, Advisor for the Green Circle Program, member of the Board of Directors for the Kennebec Girls Scout Council, Chairwoman of the Nominating Committee, and she was integral to the formation of the Mollyockett Association. In recognition of her service to community she received the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award.
Nancy was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America serving one term as President. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Nancy was a driving force behind husband Roland’s multiple successful campaigns for Maine State Senator and found time to cultivate an amazing talent for drawing and painting, mainly water colors. Her family is blessed to have her works abundantly displayed amongst the family homes. She loved to travel and was blessed to have visited points of interest all over the world.
Nancy was a fierce warrior for her family and community and despite significant health challenges later in life remained a quiet force behind the scenes all of our lives.
The family would like to express its thanks to AVOW Hospice, Bonita Nurse Concierge Service, CG Services, and Bentley Village for all their care and comfort to Mom until her passing. A special thank you to all the caregivers who took care of Mom. They were very comforting to her as well as to the rest of the family.
Nancy is predeceased by her husband Roland, brother Alvin Barth. She is survived by her daughter, Meg and husband, David Styrczula, son, Jeff and wife Kim, son, Dave and wife Kathy, Son, Ted and wife Judi, her grandchildren Ethan (wife Mary), Zachary (partner Renee), Kaylene, Matt, Nick, Jami Hayden (husband Sean), Shannen Styrczula, and great grandchildren, Roczen, Elianna and Ethan Jr., Sister In-Law Lee Barth, Nephews Karl and Bruce Barth
