

Mary Ellen zum Felde, aged 89, passed away peacefully at her home on January 5, 2025. Born in Brownsville, Texas, in 1935, Mary Ellen led a life marked by kindness, service, and devotion to her family and community.
She graduated from Arkansas High School in Texarkana, Arkansas, and the University of Arkansas, where she majored in Home Economics. In 1955, she married William R. McManus, and in 1979, she married Lloyd zum Felde, relocating to Naples, Florida, where she built a vibrant life.
Mary Ellen enjoyed a successful career with John R. Wood Realty in Naples. She was an active member of The Forum Club, member of the Aqualane Shores Board, Covenant Church of Naples, and First Presbyterian Church of Naples. Prior to her move to Naples, Mary Ellen served as the Executive Director of the YWCA in St. Petersburg and continued her dedication to community service by serving on the board of the Collier County YMCA for many years.
Mary Ellen’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her three sons, Stephen McManus (Susan), Mark McManus, and Robert McManus; her beloved grandchildren, Duncan McManus (Stephanie), Marquette McManus, Lindsey McManus, and Dylan McManus; and her cherished step-grandchildren, Christopher Hale (Marissa), Carson Hale (Dani), and Chloe and Xavier Hale. She is also survived by her brother, John T. Quinn. She was predeceased by her brothers Jimmy and Richard Quinn.
A memorial service to celebrate Mary Ellen’s life will be held at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens on Saturday, January 18, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m., with lunch to follow at Hodges.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and team at Avow, as well as Andrea, Esme, and Beatrice, for their compassionate care during Mary Ellen’s final years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Avow Hospice or Saint Matthews House in Mary Ellen’s honor.
