It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Henry Grimes Jr. on September 21st, 2023, age 33. Despite the challenges of drug addiction, Richard, affectionately known as Ricky, lived a life marked by vibrance, curiosity, and love for those around him.
Born April 10th, 1990, Ricky grew up in Naples one of six children to parents Rick and Allison Grimes. After graduating from Hargrave Academy in Virginia, Ricky attended FGCU before graduating from GIA school in San Diego, CA.
He often said that his family and cousins were not just relatives, but his best friends, and he shared so many memories with his cousins in Captiva Island, Blowing Rock and Beech Mountain in North Carolina, where he would spend the winters snowboarding. He shared cherished moments not only with his family, but with his girlfriend, Annie Willis, and found joy in the company of his two beloved dogs, Teddy and Penny. He leaves behind a grieving family: parents Allison and Rick, siblings Jodi, Christie, Vivian and EJ, grandmother Thelma Booker, nineteen cousins and fifteen aunts and uncles. The memory of his younger brother, Randy, who passed away in 2015, remains etched in the hearts of many.
Ricky was a keen athlete, workout enthusiast and avid sports fan, as evidenced by his love for the Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics. He was a familiar and friendly face at the local gym, which for the last 20 years provided a place where he could seek sanctuary and channel his interminable energy. He applied his eagerness to learn by spending his time fixing houses, but his ultimate dream was to one day open a dog park with a small restaurant in his home town of Naples. Ricky's love for life was evident in his relationships.
A private family service will be held for Ricky on Friday at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens. A Catholic mass will be held at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Saturday, September 30th at 12pm for all who would like to attend. Family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Laces of Love, a charitable organization that provides new sneakers to low income and disadvantaged children in Collier and Lee County. It is a perfect foundation, because Ricky used to collect and sell sneakers. We would like to thank Hodges Funeral Home for all their help and support through this sad time.
Ricky's infectious laughter, boundless energy, and unwavering commitment to those he loved will be deeply missed. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the remarkable journey of a life that, though faced with challenges, was filled with love, adventure, and purpose. Your legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those you touched.
