
Richard Armond Hennings, 81, from Naples, Florida, passed away on September 23, 2016 at his home in Naples, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria Margaret [Giachetti], and children Jeffrey (Debbie), Cheryl (Dave) Carter, and Kenneth (Diane). Rich was known as “Pop” to eight grandchildren: Rachael, Jessica (Greg), Dale (Steffanie), Ben, Anthony, Cole, Nathan and Ashley, as well as three great-grandchildren: Gavin, Glenn and Jarett.
Rich was born November 12, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio. A US Army Veteran, he earned a BS from Kent State and MS from University of Maine in Geology. His career started at Ferro Corp for 17 years before joining Franklin Oil. He finished his career as owner of Polar Inc. in Dayton, Ohio.
Rich and Gloria fell in love with Naples, Florida, and, after living there part time for many years, moved permanently to retire in Tarpon Cove. Rich loved to play tennis, and enjoyed his role coordinating the Col-Lee Tennis league. Fishing was another love, and for 25 years he made the yearly trek to Lake Erie to fish for walleye. He was also an avid collector of antique clocks and a member of the NAWCC. Rich touched the lives of many with his quick wit and trademark sense of humor all the way to the end, and will be missed dearly by family, friends and all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on October 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by interment services at Hodges Funeral Home, 525 111th Avenue, N. Naples, Florida 34108. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
