Richard T. Huelsmann

Richard Thaddeus Huelsmann was born on February 14, 1944, and passed away on Sunday March 26, 2023 after a long battle with Frontotemporal Dementia (Aphasia). Richard was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Marianne Huelsmann. He is survived by his loving son, Mark Richard Huelsmann, his wife Ashley, grandson Lannon, his brother Howard Huelsmann, and wife Karen Huelsmann all of Naples, FL. Richard obtained his Masters in Education and undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut in Chemistry and his 6th year from St. Josephs University. Richard was well-loved by peers and staff in his long standing career as a middle school principal in East Hampton, CT.

Richard married the love of his life, Marianne Huelsmann, in August of 1972. Sadly, she lost her battle to ALS in September of 2021. Throughout their life together, they traveled the world by boat and plane, favoring their trips to Ireland.

In retirement, Richard split his time between Harwich, MA and Naples, FL. While in Harwich, he was a member of the Newcomers Club, where he enjoyed kayaking, cycling, and boating. In Naples, he had a bustling social life, with cocktail Wednesdays, more kayaking, swimming, and other community parties and events, which he loved to attend.

Many will remember Richard by his beloved yellow VW Thing 181, which he thoughtfully restored and cherished for over three decades.

Richard will be missed by all those he loved and touched, leaving behind his niece Sheryl and husband Dennis Hutton of Somers, CT. , niece Linda Reichle of Kennebunkport, ME., niece Randy and husband Glen Reichle of East Windsor CT., sister-in-law, Ellen, and brother-in-law Tom Schroeder of Rocky Hill, CT. , nephew Pete and wife Rachel Korta of Cromwell CT., niece Elizabeth and husband Panos Mastrogiannisc of Trumbull CT. , and finally his dear friends Charlie and Toni Haley of Naples, FL.

Services will be held on Saturday April 1, at 4:30 pm at Hodges Funeral home on 111th Ave. in Naples, FL.
