Roger was born on January 4th, 1942 in Farming Township, MN, to Joseph and Alma (Schefers) Buerman. Following high school, he joined the National Guard. He then met and eventually married Joyce Terres in December, 1965. Roger was a man who wore many hats in his working days. He earned his teaching degree at St. Cloud State College (SCSU) and began his first teaching job as a science teacher in Marshall, MN. He eventually ended up teaching 7th and 9th grade science at Eden Valley-Watkins for over 30 years. In addition, he coached 7th and 8th grade Baseball. His students may have heard him refer to himself as some number of pounds of Rompin’ Stompin’ Tiger, depending on the year. He and his wife, Joyce, also ran Horseshoe Lake Resort in Richmond for nearly 40 years. Between teaching and the resort, he touched many lives and gained many lifelong friends. Upon retirement, he and his wife enjoyed spending winters in Florida. He had a wide-ranging list of hobbies including, fishing, reading, bird watching, card playing, and watching the Minnesota Twins. He also loved to tinker with any sort of thing which needed fixing. He wasn’t afraid to tackle any project whether it be remodeling a cabin or fixing a motor.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; children, Rebecca of Bonita Springs, FL, and Amanda (Paul Gertken) of Richmond, MN; siblings, Beatrice (Don) Bloch, Harold (Judy), Theodore, Joan, David (Patty), Irene (Theron) Bennett, and Daniel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Genevieve, LuVern, and Jean.
Arrangements are being made through Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Garden in Naples, FL. A private service will be held in Florida with a memorial to be held at a later time in Minnesota.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
