

After many wonderful years of life with her large family and many friends, Ruth has gone to heaven to be reunited with the love of her life, her husband of 70 years, Virgil Batcher. Virgil went to heaven seven years before her, along with her sons, Larry, Gary, and daughter, Jodie, before that.
Ruth grew up in Washington, D.C., right in the middle of the great depression. She lost her dad at 3 years old when he fell from a window. Then her mother raised her with help from the government, which was a tough time and place in D.C. She made it through all that to have a wonderful, loving life with her husband, Virgil, and the five kids they had together: Larry, Gary, Vickie-Jo, Rusty, & Jodie. With lots of grandkids, and lots and lots of great grandkids, followed by great, great grandkids, totaling 45 in all.
Ruth was also a founding member of many of Naples' Community endeavors. Elder and Head Usher of First Presbyterian Church of Naples, where she helped to develop the beginnings of the original church, one of the founding families. Organized the beginnings of Habitat for Humanity, Youth Haven of Naples, for which she received a "Point of Light" award from the President of the United States, on Air Force One (George Bush). Also, various City of Naples boards and committees, a member of the Women's clubs of Naples, and the pink ladies of the Naples Community Hospital, to name a few. Ruth was preceded by her father, Harold Hume; her mother and stepfather, Lulu and Leroy Lieby; her Sisters, Mildred Hume, and brother, Harold Hume. She is survived by her daughter, son and adopted daughters, Vickie-jo, Rusty, Cathy, and Beth, along with their families, which include, 17 grandkids, 27 great grand kids, and 3 great great, grand kids, which makes five generations. Also, to include numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Viewing will be at Naples Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Family at 5:30, Friends from 6:00-7:30 PM, with a Service at the downtown Naples First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at 3:00pm in Naples Memorial Gardens. Instead of flowers, please give to a charity of choice in her name. You will find many who know her well.
