Salvatore Joseph Giovannotto, was born March 20, 1931 to Giuseppe and Paolina Montalto Giovannotto in New York City, New York. He was the oldest of three children whose siblings Frank and Jean predeceased him.
He attended City College in NYC where he studied Mechanical Engineering. Sal served in the US Army as a Combat Engineer during the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the Silver Medal. After he was released from active duty in June, 1953 he was transferred to US Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in October 1959.
After his discharge from active duty, Sal married his childhood sweetheart Josephine (affectionately known as Bing) on June 27,1954. In October 1997, he and Bing retired to Naples FL where they enjoyed the beaches and comfortable lifestyle that Naples Florida offers. They were married for 59 years when Josephine was called home to the Lord in 2014.
Salvatore is survived by his children: Pauline and Manny Tummino of Fresh Meadows, NY Rose (Jerry) McLaughlin of Naples, FL and Frank and Wendy Giovannotto of Marietta GA. Ten grandchildren Christopher Tummino, Samantha Branda, Vincent Branda, Taylor Giovannotto and Dan Gilmartin, Justin Giovannotto, Brendan Giovannotto, Logan Giovannotto, Taylor Mclaughlin and Alexes Mclaughlin. Hudson Gilmartin is his first great grandchild. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sal was a patriarch with great determination and strength. He was, like no other an honest and compassionate man. His quick wit and quotes "good night Chet" “actions speak louder than words”
"hearty appetite" defined him and kept his family and friend’s coming back for more. He will be missed dearly.
"Good night Chet...may you rest in peace beside your Beautiful Bing"
A funeral mass for Salvatore will be held Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 625 111th Ave North Naples, FL 34110 Burial to follow at St. Johns Memorial Garden.
Sal's charity of choice was always The Wounded Warriors Project; of which he was a proud member. Please know our family will consider a donation in memory of him as a supreme gesture of kindness.
