Virginia (Ginny) J. Poirier, age 90, of Naples, FL passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. She was born in Medford, MA in 1932, the daughter of the late Guido Zani and Eva (Madore) Zani, and sister to the late Lorraine Jones.
She is predeceased by her beloved John R. Poirier, her husband of 41 years.
She is survived by her children, Lynette M. Poirier and her partner Xyomara Padilla of Dorchester, MA, William J. Poirier and his husband Daniel Marsh of Naples, FL, and Robert P. Poirier and his husband Jeffrey M. Clifford of Ogunquit, ME., and her beloved cat Mr. Coby.
Ginny spent the majority of her life living in Medford, MA. The house on Allston Street became party central every Labor Day weekend as the neighborhood would descend upon the Poirier lawn. Ginny loved to host parties and holiday gatherings. At the height of the holiday season, she would always be found in her kitchen whipping up pies, cookies, and other sweets along with her homemade manicotti, eggplant parmesan, and of course her ravioli with a touch of nutmeg in the cheese.
Over Ginny’s 90 years, she worked at the phone company, as a Lunch Mother at the local elementary school, the Federal Archives in Waltham, Star Market main office, and later as an usher at the Ogunquit Playhouse. She, along with her husband Rock enjoyed many years of dancing together and lounging at the beach. From their cottages at Hampton and Rye Beaches to their many years at Littlefield’s Village in Ogunquit, Maine Virginia, and husband could always be found lounging in their beach chairs.
Ginny was not one to shy from expressing her opinion as many of the dedicated staff of the Carlisle in Naples are well aware. We are extremely grateful for the care and outpouring of love from the residents and staff at The Carlisle. A huge thank you to the entire staff of The Carlisle and to Avow Hospice for their exceptional care during our mother’s final weeks.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Ave N, Naples, FL 34108.
