William A. Boyd of Naples, Florida passed away peacefully on April 11, 2013 at Avow Hospice of Naples. Bill was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Dr. Clarence and Eva Keats Boyd, and made Pittsburgh his home with his wife, Wilma Boyd and their four children until 1984. Bill and Wilma made Naples their permanent residence in 1984 after visiting family in Naples for many years.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy and Army during WWII and retired as a Major in the Army, after 24 years of military service. He began his professional career as a funeral director in Pittsburgh after graduating from The Pittsburgh Academy of Mortuary Science. He joined his good friend Earl Hodges at Hodges Funeral Chapel as a licensed funeral director in 1984.
Bill was very active in the Naples community along with his wife Wilma, supporting many charities and organizations.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Wilma Boyd of Naples FL, daughter Virginia Lynn Farris of Naples, FL, son William Drew Boyd (Wendy) of Cincinnati, OH, daughter Terri Lee Boyd of Washington, DC, daughter Suzanne Boyd Showers (David) of Arlington, VA, granddaughter Alexandra B. Knoppel of Washington, DC, grandson William Ryan Boyd of Cincinnati, OH, and granddaughter Courtney M. Showers of Arlington, VA.
Bill was a member of Moorings Presbyterian Church, Orient Lodge F&AM of Pittsburgh and The Club Pelican Bay.
We wish to thank our devoted and caring doctor, Dr. Zampogna, Avow Hospice and the many friends who were there for us.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 3:00 PM in the Sanctuary of Moorings Presbyterian Church, 791 Harbor Drive, Naples FL, with a reception immediately following in Moss Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Moorings Presbyterian Church.
