

With gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of William (Willie) Neagle on January 7, 2026, in Naples, Florida, at the age of 100. A man who made a lasting impression on everyone he met, Willie was known for his warmth, dedication, and love of life.
Willie is survived by his sons Bill (Cindy) and Bob, his daughter Barbara, stepchildren Jimmy Nemitz and Amy Nemitz, his grandchildren; Sheryl Greene (Bobby), Robin Hamilton (Scot), Wyatt Neagle, and Rachel Neagle; his great grandsons Kevin Greene and Ian Hamilton (Brittany); his great-great grandsons Liam Hamilton and Brady Hamilton; his brother Harlen Neagle, and his first wife Delores Groves. He is preceded in death by his second wife Lucille, his third wife Joyce, and his great grandson, Alex Greene.
Born on November 3rd, 1925, Willie grew up working the family farms in Southern Oklahoma and North Texas, along with his parents and 8 siblings. At 18 years old he left home to defend his country, and proudly served on the USS LST 947, which took part in the battle of Okinawa. He continued to stay close to his fellow sailors from the “Lucky 7” and was instrumental in organizing frequent reunions that went on for more than 50 years after his duty ended.
After returning to the States, Willie relocated to Chicago and embarked on a nearly 40-year career as a railroader in various roles with the Milwaukee Road. Throughout the late 50’s, and 60’s, he simultaneously was a tavern proprietor creating welcoming gathering places for friends and patrons alike.
Willie was a strong sports enthusiast, closely following the Chicago White Sox and Bears, and coaching several youth sports teams. He took up golf in his late 50’s and became quickly proficient at it, going on to record six holes in one, carrying a single digit handicap into his 80’s. and continuing to hit the links until he was 95.
A celebration of life for this great father, grandfather, husband, brother, friend and veteran will be held on May 9, 2026, in the Chicago area with exact time and location to be announced shortly.
