Barton W. Massey

Bart Massey of Rockland County, New York, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 27, 2026. He was 94 years old. Bart is survived by his daughter, three sons, and their spouses; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 71 years, Barbara.

Bart cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy. For many years, Bart and Barbara enjoyed early morning drives in their metallic blue Trans Am, followed by breakfast at West Point memories that became a special part of their life together. Bart was also an avid pigeon racer, raising and racing pigeons and enjoying many years with his friends at the local pigeon club. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1956.

Born in Pasadena, California, to Bart and Mary Massey, Bart married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Horvay, in 1951. Together, they built a loving family and shared 71 years of marriage. Barbara was the backbone of the family, supporting Bart throughout his career while raising their four children. Bart graduated from Stanford University in California with an MBA and spent his entire professional career with the Exxon Corporation, including several years living and working in Japan.

Bart will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his pride in his children and grandchildren, his love of pigeons and racing, and the many years he shared with Barbara.

A private family viewing will be held on Saturday, October 3, at 10:00 a.m. at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, followed by burial at Germond’s Cemetery.
