James Anthony Gambardella

James Anthony Gambardella of Suffern, New York, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born on April 6, 1933, in the Bronx, New York, Jim was the beloved son of the late James and Lucy Gambardella.

A proud American, Jim honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from May 6, 1953 to April 12, 1955. Shortly after returning home, he married the love of his life, Mary Harrington on May 28, 1955 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in the Bronx, New York. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and unwavering devotion, sharing more than seven decades of love and raising seven children.

Following his military service, Jim dedicated 30 years to the New York City Fire Department as a Tiller Man.

Outside of his service and career, Jim found his greatest happiness with his family. He especially loved spending time in the woodshop he built in his backyard, where he crafted countless projects with care and skill. Whether building furniture, gifts, or special keepsakes, he took great pride in creating things that would be enjoyed by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for years to come.

Jim's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Gambardella; his seven children, JoAnn (John) Lenny, Rosemary (Jerry) Zafrani, Kathleen (Jim) Moorman, Mary Gambardella, Jimmy (Jackie) Gambardella, John (Maureen) Gambardella, and Thomas (Rosalba) Gambardella. He also leaves behind 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride and happiness.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main Street, New City, NY 10956.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Saint Augustine, 118 South Main Street, New City, NY 10956 with a burial to follow at Ascension Cemetery at 650 Saddle River Road, Airmont, NY 10952.
