With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lou Tufano, who passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2026, leaving behind a family and a lifetime of memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Lou shared the past 35 years of his life with his beloved wife, Catherine Tufano. Together, they built a life with a blended family, sharing the years, experiences, and memories that make up a lifetime together.
A man of many talents and many chapters in life, Lou was never defined by just one profession. Throughout his working years, he wore many hats, including serving as a police sergeant with the Fairview Police Department in New Jersey, working as a realtor, driving trucks, and working as a welder. His varied careers reflected a life spent working in different fields, taking on new challenges, and making his way through the world with a wealth of experience.
For approximately 50 years, Lou called Stony Point, in Rockland County, New York, home. Over those five decades, the community became the backdrop to much of his life and his family’s story. It was there that he spent many years building his life, raising his family, and coaching football for many years.
Above all, Lou leaves behind a family whose lives are forever connected to his. He was a father to his children and opened his heart and home to an adopted son and daughter, embracing the meaning of family in more than one way.
Lou is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine; his children, Louie Tufano, Rose Joyce, Catherine Barrese, Anthony Tufano, adopted daughter Sandra Groody, and stepdaughters Christine Drenth McGrath and Terri Drenth; as well as extended family members and loved ones who will carry his memory forward. He was predeceased by two sons, adopted son James Smith and Theodore Tufano, whose memories remain a cherished part of the family’s story.
Though his passing brings sadness, his life is also a reason to remember, to share stories, and to reflect on the many years and experiences that made him who he was. The impact of a father’s life does not end with his passing; it lives on through his wife, his children, his family, and the memories they hold dear. This is one of those instances where a man was able to live a long full life that should be celebrated as much as mourned.
Lou Tufano will be deeply missed by those who loved him. May he rest in peace, and may we all find comfort in the years we shared and the stories that will remain with us always.
