Maryann was born on January 8, 1945, at Physicians Hospital in Queens, New York, to Thomas and Mary McSherry. She spent her early years in the Parkside Projects on Bronx Park East. In 1956, she moved with her parents and brother, Jimmy, to Colonial Drive, where she would spend the next 70 years of her life. In 1971, she moved across the street from her parents, remaining close to the neighborhood and the people she loved.
Maryann met the love of her life, Richard Liquori, at a Cresthaven Catholic singles dance in 1969. They married just six months later and went on to share 56 wonderful years together. They welcomed three children: Rich, Eileen, and Thomas. Being a mother was the greatest joy of Maryann’s life, until she became a grandmother. In her later years, she devoted herself to her six beloved grandchildren: Sean, Mia, Anna, and Chris Liquori, and Julianna and Benjamin Robusto. They brought her immeasurable happiness and filled her days with love.
Maryann began her teaching career in 1966 at Little Tor Elementary School in New City. She later taught at St. Gregory Barbarigo School and North Garnerville Elementary School, where she spent the majority of her career. Teaching was much more than a profession to Maryann; it was a calling. She brought learning to life by playing her guitar with her students, putting on plays, and inspiring children to read and develop a lifelong love of learning. She had a special gift for connecting with the shy and quiet children, gently bringing them out of their shells and helping them discover their own confidence.
Maryann loved to sing, laugh, and spend time with family and friends. She was a familiar and beloved presence at the 9:15 a.m. Mass at St. Augustine’s Church, where she sang alongside her best friends in the group Joyful Noise . Music was always a central part of her life, bringing people together and creating memories that would last a lifetime. Singing with her children, grandchildren, and friends remained one of her greatest joys, even in the final years of her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. It was a beautiful reminder that some things, especially the love and joy found in music, could never truly be taken away.
Maryann was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Mary McSherry, and her beloved brother, Jimmy. She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Liquori; her children, Richard and Marissa Liquori, Thomas Liquori, and Eileen and Mike Robusto;
and her six cherished grandchildren, Sean, Mia, Anna, Chris, Julianna, and Ben. She was also a loving aunt and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she adored.
Maryann was a gift to everyone who knew her. She had a rare ability to make each person feel seen, valued, and loved. Through her devotion to her family, her love of teaching, her beautiful voice, and her generous spirit, she touched countless lives. Her warmth, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
