Patrick F Hartigan

Patrick Francis Hartigan, affectionately known to everyone as “Patsy,” passed away at the age of 86.

Born in Ballyglass, Ahascragh, County Galway, Ireland, Patsy came to the United States at the age of 21. He spent the next 65 years living in New York and New Jersey, where he built a life surrounded by a large and loving family.

Patsy will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his cheerful personality, and the laughter and fun he brought to family gatherings. Those who knew him will especially remember two of his favorite expressions, always said with a smile: “Spot on!” and “Keep the faith!” Hearing those words will always bring fond memories of Patsy to those who knew and loved him.

Patsy was previously married to Catherine “Kay” Barcoe, who predeceased him. He was a beloved uncle and granduncle to his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Patsy is survived by his sisters Mary O’Riordan, Anne O’Connor and Lilly Heraghty, and his brother Paul Hartigan; his brothers-in-law John O’Connor and Martin Foley; and his sisters-in-law Jean Hartigan, Maryanne Hartigan, Betty Hartigan and Claire Hartigan.

He was predeceased by his brothers Tommy, Joe and Gerry Hartigan; his sister Nollie Carew; and his brothers-in-law Joseph Heraghty, Thomas O’Riordan, and Micheal Carew.

Patsy’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Sunrise for the care and kindness they showed him, as well as to his dear friends Tom and Bill, whose friendship and companionship meant so much to him during his time there.

Patsy was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Visitation will be held at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, New York, on Friday, October 2, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather to remember and celebrate Patsy’s life.

A funeral mass will be held at the Marian Shrine in Stony Point, New York on Saturday, October 3rd at 12:00pm. All are welcome to attend.
