Tom passed away July 25, 2021, after a brief illness. He was born October 23, 1942 in Nyack, NY. He grew up in Nanuet and attended Nyack High School, where he played on the football team and the track team, graduating in 1960. He then attended Ithaca College, graduating in 1964 with a major in History. After college, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving two years on active duty as a field radio operator, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He served with the 3rd Force Recon, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, at the infamous “Rockpile”. He then served four years in the Marine Corps reserves. After his military service, Tom worked many years for the NY Yankees as a media salesman, while living in Manhattan. He then worked many years with the Carpenters Union, while living in Nyack, where he had many friends. He had a great knowledge of and enjoyed Doo-Wop music.
He was a member of the Willis Polhemus Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9215 of Upper Nyack, the C. R. & R. O. Blauvelt American Legion Post 310 of Nyack and the Rockland County Marine Corps League. He very much enjoyed the fellowship and camaraderie of his fellow Military Veterans. Tom is survived by his cousins Michael Wicks, of Lords Valley, Pennsylvania, and Ann Knieriem, of Tappan, NY.
A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main Street, New City, NY. A joint VFW-American Legion Service will be held at 6:00 PM at the Funeral Home, followed by a Marine Corp League Service shortly thereafter. Burial with a graveside service will be at Fred Loescher Cemetery, 220 Brick Church Road, New Hempstead, NY on Wednesday, August 4 at 10:30 AM.
