William Russell Hopper, a New City resident all his life, died January 9, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital in New York. He was 85 years old. William Russell was born in Nyack, NY to Raymond and Francis Ella (Hill) Hopper. William Russell had been married to his beloved wife, Stella G. Hopper for 56 years, and missed her greatly since her passing on April 6, 2003. He was retired from American Cyanamid located in Pearl River, NY, as a heavy equipment engineer. He was a Veteran of WWII. He was proud of his service in the Navy aboard The USS Roxane, as her helmsman in the Pacific Theater. He was an active member of the Rockland Bergan Boat Club for many years and a member of The American Legion. William Russell was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his family and lifelong friends. His interests in fishing and boating always brought a smile. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Lee Hopper of Saratoga Springs, NY. Family may receive friends on Saturday from 2-4 & 7-9 at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Services will be held on Saturday at the funeral home at 8:30pm.
