After receiving his commission as a Lieutenant of Marines and training at Pensacola, FL, he was designated as a Naval Flight Officer. During his service in the Vietnam War, he flew 250 missions in the A6 Intruder and was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 22 Air Medals, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, as well as other personal decorations.
After completing his active service he stayed active in the Marine Corps Reserve, flying the F4 Phantom, and serving in many command and staff assignments.
He was a graduate of the Marine Corps and Canadian Command & Staff Colleges, and retired as a Colonel after 31 years of service.
Chip also served as chapter president and held several national offices in two veterans organizations.
He was First Vice President and Portfolio Management Director with Morgan Stanley. During his long career he served his many clients as a Financial Advisor and had several assignments in branch and sales management.
He was a former member of the Board of Governors of the Sewanee Academy, a Trustee of the University of the South, and a member of the boards of Associated Catholic Charities and the New Orleans Health Corporation. Most of all, Chip enjoyed being with his wife, Sally, children and grandchildren and his large, extended family. Called “Pops” by his grandchildren, it was rare for him to miss a birthday, game, or family function. He loved family vacations, celebrating holidays and umpiring the family Thanksgiving Turkey Bowl game.
The family would like to thank his medical team for their care and comfort.
