Alfred “Al” Branning Chiles, III, passed away on January 5, 2026, at the age of 73. He was born on February 14, 1952, in Gainesville, Florida and was raised in Bartow, Florida. After earning his bachelor’s degree from Tulane University, he dedicated his life to serving his country. He became a Major in the United States Army Reserve with the 377th TAACOM. After leaving the Army, he worked as a claims adjuster for All State Insurance Company. He was a member of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, American Legion, VFW, and a Pi Kappa Alpha Alumnus. In his free time, he enjoyed collecting stamps and coins and watching sports- especially when Tulane was playing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred B. Chiles, Jr. and Elizabeth Coe Chiles; brother, Larry Chiles; and grandchildren, Fredrick Gonsoulin, Gabriella Gonsoulin, and Stella Albritton.

Al is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathleen Brown Trygg Chiles; daughters, Kati Trygg Brown (Matthew), Rachael Elaine Trygg, and Lauren Trygg Baxter (Chris); brother, Harry F. Chiles (Mary); grandchildren, Madeline Gonsoulin Latino (Christian), Georgia Brown, Scarlett Brown, Mya Baxter, Chris Baxter, and Bryson Baxter; niece, Courtney McDonnell (Tommy); nephew, Frazier Chiles (Cessie); and several great nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to St. Margaret’s at Mercy.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 3412 Haring Road in Metairie, on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Visitation will begin at 1 PM with a memorial following at 2 PM. Rev. Robert Childress will be officiating.
