Alice "Del" Runyan
May 20, 1939 – September 12, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Alice “Del” Runyan announces her passing on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at the age of 79 years.
Family and friends will remember Del as fully engaged in social activities, traveling, reading, laughing and tending to her garden along with its critters. A loving and hands-on mother who sewed her daughter’s ballet dresses, kicked her son in the butt until he graduated college, fervently supported her entrepreneur husband, and was a no-nonsense landlady. She would always say “I didn’t know what I was doing,” but she led with her heart and all who had a chance to call her mother, wife or friend are eternally grateful for having met her and would now undoubtedly respond “You did great.”
Her humor is our families greatest asset. A perennial prankster Del was always on the lookout to engage others and never shied away from a joke. Whether it was a harsh rebuke or telling a car salesman who called one evening looking for George, “I can’t believe he told you our last name. We’re in the witness protection program, and now we’ll have to move.” Her humor still resides with her family who is always cracking jokes in our darkest hours.
Del is survived by her husband of 58 years, George, children Moya (Kenny) and Alan (Alma), as well as her four grandchildren Marisa, Andrew, Sophia and, Audrey.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 19 at 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. at the Lake Lawn Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans.
Instead of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
