Obituary of Dr. Alix Bouchette
Dr. Alix Claude Bouchette, age 61, passed away in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Friday, July 21, 2017. He was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on January 18, 1956, to the late Mona Laura Turnier and Roger Bouchette. Dr. Bouchette received his medical degree in Haiti at the age of 23, and moved to the United States for his residency in Orthopedics. He then began a medical internship in Pathology in New Orleans, Louisiana, continued his studies in Chicago, Illinois, and transitioned his career path to Internal Medicine. Shortly after completing his work at Mount Sinai Hospital, Dr. Bouchette established his new home, career and life with his beautiful wife Elsie Hyacinthe Bouchette back in the Crescent City. For the past 30 years, Dr. Alix Bouchette has made a memorable impression throughout the medical field in New Orleans. Taking immense pride in helping and healing individuals in the community, Dr. Bouchette held affiliations with the American Medical Association, American Association of Blood Banks, American Academy of Family Physicians and the Southern Medical Association. He was also extremely committed to student education and received multiple accolades, like “Preceptor of the Year” by being a Clinical Assistance Professor of Family Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine and Louisiana State University of Medicine. Though he was a physician by trade, Dr. Bouchette had a passion for the arts, and was a lover of music, photography, and travel. Anyone who knew Dr. Bouchette personally also knew that he was an exceptional dancer whose favorite pastime was dancing with his wife. Dr. Bouchette had a one-of-a-kind loving relationship with his mother, Mona. So much so that the woman who brought his beautiful soul into the lives of so many also transitioned to the heavens of the Lord with Dr. Bouchette upon hours of hearing of the passing of her beloved son. Above all, Dr. Bouchette was a loveable, caring, and giving family man. As head of his household, he always set the bar high and led by example for his two children, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his uncles, Guy and Hughes Turnier and his cousins, Philippe Frederic and Betty Fabien. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Elsie Hyacinthe Bouchette; his children, Dominique Bouchette and Frantz Chery, Jr.; his brother, Daniel Bouchette (Carole); sister, Elsie Bouchette Blanc; brothers-in-law, Herve Remarias (Raymonde), Jean-Robert (Francoise), Adrien (Murielle) and Frantz-Michel (Micheline) Hyacinthe; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Gilbert (Tony), Michelle H.
