Alvin Hubert Davis

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Al displayed his brilliant mind early, enrolling at Vanderbilt University at just 16 years old and graduating by 20. He then moved to New York, launching his career as a buyer for the Associated Merchandising Corporation. After honorably serving his country in the U.S. Army, Al returned home to New Orleans, where he operated the Hollywood Shops on Canal Street for 28 years, establishing himself as a fixture of the city's retail landscape.

In 1977, Al transitioned into commercial real estate with Latter & Blum, quickly becoming a pivotal figure in Louisiana's industrial market. His uncanny market insight, combined with a legendary photographic memory, made him a formidable broker and an invaluable mentor to generations of real estate professionals. His impact on the region was so profound that a street in Elmwood Industrial Park was named in his honor.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Al possessed a quick wit and a rare gift for connection - he could talk with anyone. He was also a man of absolute candor: with Al, you always knew where you stood. Refusing to pull punches or mince words, his refreshing honesty was always balanced by a deep, unwavering love for those around him.

Above all, Al was devoted to his family. He shared 45 wonderful, laughter-filled years of marriage with his beloved wife, Betty Davis.

Al's brilliance, sharp tongue, warmth, and enduring spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends colleagues, and the countless individuals he guided throughout his remarkable life.

Al was preceded in death by his son, Alan Davis, and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Betty Davis; his three grandchildren, Jonathan, Benjamin, and Joshua Davis; and his great granddaughter, Camilla Davis.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 11:00AM until 1:00PM. The interment will be private.
