

Anita Concha Prieto, PhD, age 81 years, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Lakeview Regional Hospital in Covington, LA. Beloved daughter of the late Annie Giglio Prieto and Fernando Prieto. Loving sister of Deanna Prieto Fernandez (Floyd) and Lorraine Prieto Kraus (Frank). Loving aunt of Floyd Paul Fernandez (Kathleen), Mary Elizabeth Fernandez (the late), David Frank Fernandez, Kathleen Mary Kraus Laliberte (Brent), Kenneth John Fernandez (Pamela), Donna Ann Kraus, Debra Marie Kraus Lemoine (Stephen). Great aunt of Scott Andrew Fernandez, Anthony John Dalmado, IV, David Matthew Dalmado, Jean Marie Fernandez, Taylor Charles Lemoine, Adam Lester Laliberte, Amanda Marie Laliberte, Casey Nicole Fernandez, Logan Matthew Fernandez, Abigail Grace Lemoine, Sarah Elizabeth Lemoine, and Nathan Charles Lemoine.
Dr. Prieto graduated Valedictorian from Francis T. Nicholls High School, received her BA and MA in Education from Louisiana State University and her Doctorate from the University of New Orleans.
She always loved teaching and dreamed of becoming a teacher since childhood. She spent 33 years of her professional career in the Orleans Parish Public School System serving as a classroom teacher, teacher on television, Supervisor, Principal and Acting Area Superintendent. She started her teaching career at Adolph Meyer, went on to become principal of Bellville Elementary School and then McDonogh 39 Elementary School, where she retired. After serving as Acting Area Superintendent, she could not wait to get back to her school and children, which she lived for. She was a member and Past President of Alpha Phi Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma, a society of key women educators, which voted her Teacher of the Year.
She also loved to write novels and when she retired she wrote children’s books, four of which are still in the marketplace. She was a parishioner of St. Philip Neri Church.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 12:00pm. Visitation will be from 10:00am until 12:00pm. Interment will follow in St. Roch Cemetery #2 in New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred.
