Ann M. Scanlan

Zilpah Ann McKinney Scanlan passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours October 4, 2024 at Woldenburg Village in New Orleans. She was 92 years old and known as Ann, or Dimple to all who loved her.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Claude Garland Scanlan; her daughter, Nancy Scanlan Schmitt; her son-in-law, Frederick “Rick” Schmitt; grandsons, Frederick Lawler Schmitt III “Erick” and Adam Colligan Schmitt; Erick’s wife, Viktoriya Borisova Schmitt; great-grandson, Conor Frederick Schmitt; great grand-daughter, Kalina Lillian Schmitt; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Byron McKinney and Mercia Agnes Hebert McKinney; her five sisters, Mercia Mary Sarver, Ethel Lee Wilkinson, Madeliene Patricia Squance, Elizabeth (Betty) Alicia Glynn, and Patricia Carroll Swan; and her grandson, Bradley Garland Schmitt.

Ann was a 30-year volunteer member of the Children’s Hospital Guild working in the hospital Gift Shop and fund-raising to obtain new x-ray equipment and rocking chairs for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She also volunteered with the Heart Ambassadors, the Cancer Crusaders, and numerous other organizations. Along with her volunteer work, she valued precious time spent with her sisters and her dear friends, Carol Avegno and Barbara Glynn, trying new restaurants, and enjoying Gourmet Dinner Club with Claude and many longtime friends. Most of all, she was a loving and giving Nene to her two grandsons. Tuesdays were always special to her as they were spent with Nancy, Rick, Erick and Adam.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 10 AM. Following Mass, she will be laid to rest in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum, 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans.
