

Anna Maria D’Antonio Mitchell completed her earthly journey and was welcomed into eternal life on April 13, 2026, following a brief illness at home. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald P. Mitchell. She is survived by her children, Donald Patrick Mitchell, Jr. (Katheryn), Rosanne Mitchell-Borne (William), Guy Joseph Mitchell (Lorie), and Bernard Mitchell (Myra); her grandchildren, Michelle Tomboli (Rocky), Melissa Mitchell, John Michael Mitchell (Jennifer), Guy Joseph Mitchell, Jr. (Traci), and Lane Mitchell; and her great-grandchildren, Macie, Madison, Jhett, and Joules.
A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Anna Maria was the only child of Senator Guy J. D’Antonio and Rose Caruso D’Antonio. She graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican High School before attending Ursuline College, where she earned a degree in Sociology in 1950 and developed a deep and lasting foundation of faith that would guide her throughout her life.
In 1951, she married the love of her life, Donald P. Mitchell, beginning a partnership that would span 62 years. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith and a deep appreciation for the richness of life. They loved to travel and explored the world, including several trips to Europe with their family. At home, she enjoyed good food, wine, art, opera, and ballet, and she especially loved Carnival season.
Anna Maria’s life was rooted in her Catholic faith. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church and an active member of several Catholic organizations, including the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. Her devotion, particularly to Our Lady of Prompt Succor, remained a constant throughout her life. She believed deeply in loyalty to her family, her faith, and her community. Her legacy lives on through her family and the values she instilled in them.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, 2701 State Street, on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until Mass time at the church. A private interment will be held at a later date.
