Anne Logan LeBreton Dawson passed away in her home on January 14, 2024 at the age of 79. She was in the presence of her loving family. Mrs. Dawson was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Harahan for the past 41 years. She was a parishioner of St. Rita of Cascia Church in Harahan.
Anne was born in New Orleans on August 14th, 1944, to the late Edmond J. and Barbara Logan LeBreton. She moved with her family to the Washington, D.C. area where she attended Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. She later graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1966, where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. Afterwards she earned a Master of Education degree from the University of New Orleans. She taught American History and Civics before becoming a guidance counselor at McMain Secondary School. She served as chairman of the Social Studies department and yearbook moderator. She was a member of the American Council of Social Studies, the American School Counselor Association, and United teachers of New Orleans.
Upon retirement in 1992, she actively volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. Anne was a member and secretary of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Throughout life, Anne pursued her first passion - travel with her family. Her second passion began in 2010 with the arrival of her grandchildren.
Anne is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Michael T. Dawson, and their two children: Donald M. Dawson (Clare) and Joan Dawson Dwyer (Brian). She leaves her treasured grandchildren: Logan, Catherine, and Hazel Dwyer; and Michael and Laura Dawson. She is survived by her sister, Margot LeBreton Merz, and brother-in-law, Michael R. Merz, of Dayton, Ohio.
The Dawson family would like to extend their gratitude to the team of doctors and caregivers who assisted her during her long battle with Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) disease.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation and funeral mass on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. The visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the mass at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow on the same grounds in Metairie Cemetery.
