Annette (Schexnayder) Corcoran passed away peacefully on November 29th, 2022 at the age of 90 to join her husband of 54 years, August Corcoran. Her long life was characterized by service to others, and devotion to family and the Catholic faith. Annette was born in Jeanerette, LA to Sophie (Dumesnil) Schexnayder and Leopold Schexnayder on February 5, 1932. After her father’s death as a teenager, she moved along with her mother and younger siblings to Ashton, LA to live with their grandfather Alexander Dumesnil at the Dumesnil family home.
After high school, she moved to New Orleans where she worked for Western Electric. She met her future husband, August Corcoran in 1955 and they married on April 28, 1956. After working at Western Electric for approximately 10 years, she worked as a homemaker and raised their children. They lived in New Orleans until 2006 when they moved to Metairie, LA. In September, 2021, Annette moved to Legacy of Franklin nursing home (near Ashton).
She is survived by her daughter Hazel of Calgary, Canada (Greg O’Neill) and Paul of Metairie, LA (Cherie Monnier) and her grandchildren Gabrielle, Alex, Patrick, Colleen, and Meghan. She is also survived by her brother Paul Schexnayder (Marie Adams), sister Madeline Andres (Edward Andres), and brother-in-law Jack Corcoran along with a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her best friend of 65 years, Patsy Falor.
She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Dominic Parish where she volunteered with the Rosary Altar Society and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and she was a Eucharistic minister. Since moving to Metairie, she was a parishioner at St. Edward the Confessor.
Annette loved to have a good time and to help other people. Over many years, she was a great host to family members and friends at their camp in Little Woods. She enjoyed garage sales and often assisted others who were holding them. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and family members, in many different ways. Quick to laugh, she was kind-hearted and well loved, and will be missed by all who knew her.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Legacy Nursing Home of Franklin and of Journey Hospice for their compassionate care.
An evening visitation for Annette will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lake Lawn Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA. A visitation will occur Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 10:00 AM to noon. A Mass of Christian burial at noon will follow the visitation, and interment will immediately follow.
