Annie was preceded in death by her parents, Governor Sam Jones and Priscilla Mingo; her two brothers, Johnny and Larry Jones; and her two sisters, Marilyn Warren and Ozella Jones.
Annie leaves behind her beloved son, Gary P. Jones, Sr. (Avery); her four grandchildren, Gary P. Jones, Jr. (Jennifer), Gabrielle P. Jones – Hayes (Daniel), Gavin P. Jones (Shannon), and Gayla P. Jones; her five great-grandchildren, Ayden T. Delahoussaye, Ari T. Delahoussaye, Gary P. Jones, III, Drew M. Hayes, and Genae P. Jones; and her eight siblings, Glenda Jones – Williams, Shirley Covington, Gaynell Rutledge (Ashford), and Gloria Lee, Joseph, Bernice, John, and Mable Boswell. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Annie was born in Columbus, Georgia on January 23, 1945. She moved to New Orleans in 1958, and in 1971 began her 40 year career with Bellsouth. She retired in 2011. She was a devoted member of Westbank Christian Center in Gretna and The Empowered Church of Jesus Christ in New Orleans East.
Annie Jones, affectionately known to many as “Maw Maw”, was a pillar to her family and her community. She enjoyed baking cakes, cooking, and caring for those around her. She will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10:00AM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:00AM. The interment will follow the chapel service at Mount OIivet Cemetery in New Orleans.
