 Words cannot express my shock and grief over Tony's untimely death. He was truly a great man and friend. I pray that God grants you comfort and strength during this most difficult time. I will miss my Tony and how he loved to tease me but I will be forever grateful for how he became a father figure to my son when he lost his own father. I was truly blessed to have known him in this life and I pray that I get to see him again in the next life.

To the Bua family, my deepest condolences on the passing of Mr.T I've known your family for a short period of time, but we became good friends. Always joking around with each other. He will be sadly missed.


Recently the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter (JPAS) and the Jefferson SPCA (JSPCA) lost a great friend, Anthony "Tony" Bua, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. Tony worked tirelessly for homeless animals in Jefferson Parish. It would take pages to list all of Tony's contributions to the JPAS and the JSPCA, so we will tell you about a few of them. 

Several years ago, Tony found two (2) dogs in New Orleans East, he brought them to the JPAS. While there, he saw opportunities for improvement at the shelter, and began working to "make it happen", that was the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Those two (2) lucky dogs found their permanent homes and we found a forever friend.

When the JSPCA was invited to participate in the first Kitten Bowl, Tony and his wife, Jodie, spent many hours building the "stadium" for the kittens. By the time they were finished, the JSPCA's Kitten Bowl stadium could easily have been the official Kitten Bowl Stadium for the Hallmark Channel. The kittens had a great time running across the "field" and so many people enjoyed watching the "game". All of the kittens were quickly adopted.

Tony and Jodie spent many many hours at the JPAS working closely with the homeless pets that were awaiting their forever homes. Anyone that works with the JPAS or any animal shelter knows that on any random day they can quickly become overwhelmed - too many animals surrendered or picked up on that day or a hoarding incident that requires immediate accommodation or any of a 100 different reasons. When those days happened, Tony would send employees of his company to help out - all at his expense. 

There is no way to know exactly how many Jefferson Parish animals Tony's care and concern positively impacted, but we do know it was certainly in the 100s. Tony didn't spend his time questioning how an owner could desert their animal, or why the owner didn't come to claim their lost pet or why anyone would allow their pet to have puppies or kittens again and again and then bring them to the shelter - he simply stepped up and took care of the animals that others chose to abandon.

Tony's family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers. All of our lives and the lives of 100s of animals were greatly enriched by knowing Tony. Tony's generosity and compassion continues even now. His family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Jefferson SPCA. What a special man and incredible family.

Dear Jodie and family: We wish you loving memories to forever hold in your heart. So sorry for your loss.

Tommy and I send our heartfelt condolences.  Tony was always smiling when we saw him in the yard. In jest Tony, when seeing me planting my seasonal flowers, always said, "When you finish planting your garden, you can come to my house."He was a good neighbor, helping us in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Jodie, Little Tony and Chris I know you heart is broken I do not have the words because I know how close of a family you were.  All I can say is I am so sorry and he was such a good person.  I remember when we lived on Nursery next to each other and Jason was young I had bought him a bike for Christmas and it was in the attic, Tony went up there to put some things and saw the bike.  He told me he was going to try to find a bike and fix it up for Jason because he knew Jason wanted a bigger bike.  That was such a wonderful thing that the was going to do.  He always made me smile when he would call or come by.  I have not spoken or had not seen him in a while but I do remember how he made me smile.  He will be missed by all.

Jodie , sons and family -  our lives are but a nanosecond on earth as compared to eternity in Heaven. Tony encompassed that nanosecond with his love of family and his actions . "What so ever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do undo ME " . What a  wonderful and meaningful legacy...
It's all about the LOVE .... The sorrow will be so raw and the grief sometimes unable to bear, Trust in God to carry you all through these tough times while Tony is receiving his heavenly reward and watching over each and everyone of you.

I am so saddened to learn of Tony's passing. I can't help but think of the Bua family and smile... we shared some wonderful times with our boys in Liberty. My heart goes out to Jodie, Tony and Chris and their families as they deal with his loss.
