Antonino Bongiorno

July 14, 1945 – April 20, 2026
Obituary of Antonino Bongiorno
IN THE CARE OF

Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries

Antonino “Nino” Bongiorno passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a passion for bringing people together through food and hospitality. Born on July 14, 1945, in Messina, Sicily, to Giuseppe and Giuseppa Bongiorno, Nino’s early life was shaped by the rich traditions of his homeland.

As a young man, he traveled across Italy and all of Europe, embracing new cultures, learning multiple languages, and creating his own opportunities, before eventually making his way to New York in pursuit of the American dream. With determination and an entrepreneurial spirit, Nino became instrumental in opening numerous pizza franchises across the United States, building a reputation for quality and dedication.

In 1997, he established his own restaurant, Café Nino, in New Orleans—a place that quickly became more than just a business. It was a reflection of Nino himself: warm, welcoming, and full of life. For nearly two decades, he ran the restaurant with pride and care, creating a space where guests felt like family. In his later working years, he cherished time with his son Giuseppe working alongside him, helping carry forward the values and traditions Nino held dear until his retirement in 2015.

Nino is survived by his loving wife, Karin; his son, Giuseppe; his daughter, Danielle; his sister, Cettina; his nieces, Amalia and Aurelia; his nephew, Giuseppe; and his cherished grandchildren, Richard and Samantha. He also leaves behind many extended family members and countless friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, generosity, and spirit.

Though words can hardly capture the fullness of his life, those who knew Nino will remember a man of strength, warmth, and unwavering love for his family. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the meals enjoyed, and the lasting impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

No services will be held at this time. We thank you for all of your well wishes.
