Arthur Burgess Snyder died peacefully at home on Monday morning, October 26, 2026, at the age of 74. A native of Elmira, NY, he lived in New Orleans, Louisiana. Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Laurene Lagonegro; his son, John Arthur Snyder; and his adoring grandchildren, Liam Snyder (father William) and Clementine Snyder (father John). He is also survived by his brother, Steve Snyder; his nephew, Geoffrey; his niece, McKenzie; his sister and brother-in-law, Clare and George Ferenczy; their children, Luke, Abigail, Zeb and Eli Ferenczy; and many cousins in Elmira and Florida. He was preceded in death by his son, William Edward Snyder; his parents, Jean and William Snyder; and his sister-in-law, Virginia (Ginny) Snyder. For 29 years, Arthur devoted himself to teaching art at Edna Karr High School. Also serving as head coach of the varsity soccer team until the late 1990’s. Upon leaving Edna Karr in 2005, he spent 4 years teaching at Alice Harte Elementary, shaping young lives with steady guidance, patience, and genuine care until he retired in 2009. He also taught art at Tulane’s Ripples summer camp for a number of years, extending that same thoughtful encouragement beyond the school year and into the wider community. A kind and giving man, Arthur was known for going out of his way to help others, offering his time and attention with quiet constancy. To generations of students, he was known as “King Bob,” a name spoken with affection and respect, reflecting the warmth he brought into the classroom and the lasting impact he made, often providing and opening his classroom to any student in need of a place of refuge were they ever in need. His passion was steadfast in the arts. Arthur was a talented painter and illustrator. His main passion being music—especially the blues—and he loved all things New Orleans. Over the years, he spent many, many happy days at Jazz Fest, routinely saving his sick days for that time, where the sounds and spirit of the city he cherished surrounded him. His absence leaves a profound and enduring emptiness for those who loved him, and his memory will remain a source of gratitude, comfort, and pride. Visitation will begin at 10:00am on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 12:00pm.
