Audrine “Audrey” Anne Poché Layman, 99, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, in Metairie, Louisiana, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Marksville, Louisiana, she was the youngest of her siblings—Alan Poché, Alden Poché, and Hazel Poché Mayeaux Stevenson—and grew up with a strong spirit that would carry her through life’s many challenges.
Audrey married the love of her life, the late William Frederick Layman, and together they built a life rooted in family, resilience, and faith. She is survived by her devoted son, William Stratford Layman, and his wife, Sharon LeBlanc Layman. Her greatest joy was being Maw Maw to William Brian Layman (Shannalyn), Melissa Layman Fernandez, Sara Layman Clark, and Lauren Layman, and MeMaw to her great-grandchildren, Laila Fernandez, Jolie’ Clark, William Brody Layman, Rocco Fernandez, and Caiden Clark.
A woman of quiet strength and unwavering determination, Audrey faced every hardship with grace and never a complained. She believed in rolling up her sleeves, getting the job done, and loving her family fiercely along the way. Her favorite saying—“A bushel and a peck and a hug around your neck”—was more than just words; it was a reflection of how she lived, offering warmth and affection to everyone she held dear.
She also had a playful side and a deep love for sports, never missing a New Orleans Pelicans or New Orleans Saints game. Whether her teams were winning or losing, she cheered them on with passion and loyalty, her enthusiasm filling the room.
Audrey’s life was a beautiful example of resilience, devotion, and love that will continue to inspire her family for generations to come. She leaves behind a legacy and countless memories her loved ones will carry in their hearts.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. The interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum, which is on the same grounds as the funeral home.
